My job is to decide what the audience feels before they work out what they are looking at. That means lighting with intent, choosing lenses for a reason, and grading the piece myself so the look survives from the monitor on set all the way to delivery.

Common questions
What is the difference between a cinematographer and a videographer?
A videographer usually owns the whole job: shooting, editing and delivering, often solo. A cinematographer, or Director of Photography, owns how the piece looks and leads a camera and lighting department under a director. I work both ways depending on the production, so it is worth telling me which one you actually need when you get in touch.
Do you bring your own camera package?
Yes for most commercial jobs. On larger productions I will usually spec a package to suit the piece and hire it in, so the kit fits the job rather than the job fitting my kit.
Do you crew up, or work alone?
Both. Plenty of commercial work is better served by one operator moving quickly. For narrative and broadcast I bring a camera and lighting team sized to the schedule, drawn from people I have worked with before.
Do you grade as well as shoot?
Yes, and I would rather do both. Shooting with the grade already in mind gets you a stronger result than handing an unrelated colourist a set of files and hoping. I also take on grading as a standalone job.
